Following the successful launch of the T-REX 450L, which introduced an innovative design and incorporated high-end electronic components, Align's most anticipated release of 2016 was the T-REX 470L. This helicopter aimed to cater to both newcomers and seasoned professionals, promising a fresh and exciting flying experience that would redefine their expectations of helicopter performance.

One of the standout features of the T-REX 470L was its 470EFL Main Rotor Head, which not only provided superior flight stability but also introduced a lower center of gravity (CG) design to reduce flying resistance. This innovation resulted in a rotor head that was not only more responsive but also far more rigid, enabling pilots to execute precise and agile maneuvers with ease.

To ensure the durability of the main and feathering shafts, Align made significant enhancements. The outer dimensions of the 470 main shaft were increased from Ø5mm to Ø6mm, and those of the feathering shaft from Ø4mm to Ø5mm. These improvements ensured that the T-REX 470L could withstand the stresses of intense 3D flying and aerobatics.

The helicopter's frame featured a high-standard 1.2mm 3K carbon fiber main frame and a wider body design. This not only added to its overall robustness but also allowed for a more capacious battery compartment, facilitating the use of larger capacity batteries. With more power capacity at their disposal, pilots could enjoy extended flight times and perform more ambitious and daring flying routines.

An efficient belt drive assembly design, equipped with an innovative adjustable belt guide pulley, made it easy for pilots to adjust the belt tension by simply releasing or tightening a screw. Proper belt tension is essential for maintaining optimal flight performance and longevity of the belt, thus reducing overall maintenance costs.

The T-REX 470L's landing skid was another area of innovation. It was tilted forward by 5 degrees, not only adding to the helicopter's aesthetic appeal but also enhancing its crashworthiness. This design element ensured that the helicopter could withstand hard landings and impacts with greater resilience.

The heart of the T-REX 470L was its powerful 470MX motor (1800KV), which was known for its high efficiency. This motor delivered superior power, excellent torque, reduced current draw, and operated at a lower temperature compared to the 460MX motor. These enhancements resulted in an overall improvement in the helicopter's performance, providing a more satisfying flying experience.

The T-REX 470L was also equipped with the brand new DS450 digital cyclic servos and DS455 digital tail servo. These servos supported a wide voltage range, extending up to V8.4, which allowed for increased torque and speed. This was particularly crucial for precise and responsive control during various flight maneuvers.

The helicopter's electronics were not neglected either. The new RCE-BL50X brushless ESC featured an internal BEC (Battery Eliminator Circuit) that provided a voltage range from 5.0V to 8.4V, and this voltage could be adjusted based on the specifications of the servos in use. This intelligent electronic setup ensured that the T-REX 470L operated at peak performance levels, making it a top choice for helicopter enthusiasts seeking an outstanding and exhilarating flying experience.

Further improvements came from extended 380mm main blades, which effectively enhanced flying stability and power performance. An engineered airfoil design also reduced turbulence at the end of the main blades, resulting in power savings during extreme 3D flight maneuvers. Longer 69 size tail blades offered superior tail holding performance, even during the most demanding 3D flight maneuvers.

Several design enhancements added to the overall package. A swashplate design with zero slop delivered precise and accurate control during flight. The use of composite technology to embed brass inserts into the main shaft bearing block enhanced the structure's integrity and strength, ensuring a solid structure even during extreme 3D flight.

Carbon fiber side frame plates were manufactured using proprietary composite material integration technology, which seamlessly integrated the battery mounting rails into the frame. This unique utilization of open spaces within the frame not only created a rigid frame but also added to its aesthetic appeal.

To enhance the strength of the main frame, an additional third main shaft bearing block was introduced. This improved frame strength while further enhancing the helicopter's suitability for 3D flight.

Align also introduced a brand new latching battery tray. This design incorporated integrated mounting rails inside the frames, simplifying the insertion and removal of batteries while providing essential protection for the battery itself.

The T-REX 470L was specially designed to support higher current output and accommodate high voltage servos, thanks to an internal BEC that delivered a voltage output ranging from 5V to 8.4V, customizable to servo specifications. This robust power supply ensured that the servos operated at their best, contributing to a more responsive and powerful flight experience.

The DS350M HV Cyclic and DS455 HV Rudder servos were another addition to the T-REX 470L, supporting voltage inputs up to 8.4V. This translated to superior responsiveness, extreme torque, and improved overall performance, particularly during demanding flight maneuvers.

An innovative adjustable belt guide pulley facilitated convenient adjustments of belt tension, providing an easy and effective way to maintain optimal belt tension over time, thus optimizing flight performance.

The T-REX 470L incorporated a one-way bearing made from bearing steel, heat-treated to achieve a hardness rating of HRC50-55. This larger bearing had a higher load-carrying capacity, which in turn reduced momentum loss and improved the efficiency, speed, and smoothness of the main rotor. This was complemented by a new main gear case and all-metal central pulley transmission system, which efficiently delivered top-tier performance.

The landing skid's 5-degree forward tilt improved crashworthiness. Furthermore, Align designed a new vertical tail servo mount, which not only enhanced the helicopter's center of gravity but also increased its responsiveness during 3D flight.

The inclusion of a wider tail boom improved torsional strength, ensuring the helicopter could handle the stresses of aggressive flight maneuvers. Align also used proprietary material integration technology to create a unique and stiff Vertical Stabilizer, adding to the overall aesthetics and performance.

The dual-point supported tail control assembly was another innovation, offering slop-free performance while enhancing rudder resolution and precision. The tail rotor holder design incorporated thrust bearings, providing increased durability and significantly improving the accuracy and efficiency of the tail performance when using 69 size Tail Blades.

In summary, the T-REX 470L was a remarkable helicopter that combined innovative design, high-end electronics, and robust components to deliver an exceptional flying experience. Align's attention to detail in terms of design, materials, and technology improvements ensured that this model met the demands of both novice and experienced pilots, redefining expectations for helicopter performance and reliability. Whether you were a newcomer looking to master the basics or a professional seeking a platform for advanced 3D maneuvers, the T-REX 470L was designed to satisfy your flying needs.
