Nitro RCs feature a specific throttle response, a greater range and that distinctive engine sound that many enthusiasts find appealing. Nitro engines function similarly to large automobiles, with components like; carburettors, air filters, clutches, flywheels, glow plugs and a crankshaft. 

Most RC cars' peak power is between 20,000 and 37,000 RPM, although nitro engines for RC cars can rotate more than 50,000 RPM. RC Nitro engines are 2-cycle, requiring two piston strokes to accomplish one engine cycle.

A wide range of nitro RC options is available, including on-road and off-road trucks, buggies, truggies and many more.

Servicing a nitro RC.

  • Air filter: Combustion engines require the proper ratio of fuel and air to function correctly. The air filter, fuel type and engine adjustment will influence the engine's performance.

    After each run, a fresh air filter will be required; without a new filter, the engine will exhibit poor throttle response and increased engine smoking when the air filter becomes blocked. Changing the air filter in the middle of the day in dusty environments may be necessary to prevent issues. After cleaning, applying a few drops of air filter oil will help keep your nitro engine running efficiently.

    Avoid over-tuning the engine should the engine performance fluctuate while running. First, check the air filter and examine mechanical issues and the ease with which the driveline moves. Then, tuning should be carried out with a clean air filter with the engine at operating temperature.
  • Glow Plugs:Glow engines use a glow plug that retains heat to ignite the fuel as you race. Glow plugs may or may not be included with your engine; however, purchasing additional components is recommended as they require regular changing. Bringing extras to the race track is also a good idea; otherwise, you risk being caught short with a vehicle that won't start.

    Make sure to clean the surrounding areas before changing the air filter or glow plug each time. By doing this, you can ensure that no dirt enters the combustion chamber. Put the car on its side while changing the used air filter or the glow plug to prevent loose dirt from entering the engine.
  • Fuel:Typically, you can buy fuels for nitro RCs with a 16–25% nitro composition. Generally speaking, 1:8 engines with turbo plugs operate on 20–25% fuel, while standard RTR engines use 16% fuel.

    It is possible to utilise fuel with a lower nitro ratio, but you risk damaging your engine with a greater one. For more information on fuel usage, consult the car's engine or the manufacturer's instructions.

    Fuel Accessories:You can use a fuel tube or a miniature fuel bottle with an angled neck to transfer the fuel from its container into your model's tank. Additionally, fuel filters may be put in the fuel lines to catch contaminants before they can harm the engine in your model.
