RC Car Oils, Greases, Threadlocks
RC Shock Oil known as shock oil or rc diff oil (differential oil), is a specialised type. Oil used with remote controlled cars, rc trucks and other vehicles controls the dampening in shocks and differentials.
With a varity of RC oils available, each with a specific viscosity rating. Oil is measured in weight (wt). The weight in oil is a rating number on the oil how thick or thin it is. For differential then this defines how quickly or slowly it flows.
- Silicone oil: Most common type of RC oil and is available in a wide range of weights. These are most ideal in shocks and diffs for RC vehicles.
- Mineral oil: When your diff needs a high viscosity and needs the ability to resist extreme temperatures.
- Synthetic oil: Normally used in high end shocks and diffs that work alot on rough ground. Typically more expensive than other types of RC oils.
- Differential oil: Typically thicker oils, than shock oil and provides better protection against wear and tear.
RC Threadlock
Typically applied to the threads of screws and bolts before they are installed into the RC vehicle. A popular brand is the loctite threadlocker. Once is dries, it forms a strong bond that helps keep the screws and bolts securely in place.
- Low-strength threadlock: Designed for use with smaller screws and bolts most used when you require frequent maintenance.
- Medium-strength threadlock: Used with larger screws and bolts and provides a stronger hold than low-strength threadlock.
- High-strength threadlock: Use with very large or high-stress screws and bolts
- Blue threadlock: Avmedium-strength that is removable with standard tools.
- Red threadlock: A high-strength that requires heat and/or special tools to remove.
