OMP Hobby RC Helicopters
OMP Hobby build small electric helicopters that punch well above their size. The M1 and M2 are the machines that made the brand's name - dual brushless direct drive, adjustable flight parameters, and 3D performance from an airframe small enough to fly in a garden or a sports hall. If you want to learn 3D without the cost of crashing a 700, this is where a lot of people start.
The models
M1 - the smallest, and genuinely capable of 3D in a confined space. A good first machine for someone who already flies a simulator.
M2 - a step up in size and power, with adjustable flight control parameters so it can be set gentle for learning and sharpened up as you improve. The one most people settle on.
BNF, ARTR or kit?
BNF (bind and fly) comes complete apart from a transmitter - bind it to a radio you already own and fly. ARTR is part-assembled and leaves you to fit some of the electronics. A kit is unassembled and lets you choose everything. If you already have a radio, BNF is usually the sensible buy.
Direct drive
Both main models use dual brushless direct drive - the motors drive the rotors without a belt. Less to wear out, less to adjust, and a very responsive feel on the sticks. It also keeps the airframe simple, which matters on a machine this size.
Is it right for a beginner?
Learn to hover on a simulator first, whatever you buy. Given that, an M1 or M2 is a far less painful place to make mistakes than a large machine - small, light, and cheap to repair. What it will not do is fly in wind the way a bigger helicopter does, so pick calm days while you are learning. See RC helicopter sizes.
