What caused my spur gears to strip on my electric car ?
A Couple of different reasons
- High power electric engines pulled hard from start can cause spur gears to wear and eventually strip
- Wheels getting jammed, can cause the motor to continue running and will cause the spur gear to strip, as the main wheels stop and engine carries on. This is the most typical style of stripping
The spur gear turns the drive train of the car and it can become stripped ( a flat spot on the gear shows missing teeth) if the pinion gear does not have the correct mesh with the spur gear. In cases some cases where a clutch bell housing needs to correctly mesh with the main gear.
