RC Rally Cars
RC rally cars: 4WD models in 1/10, 1/18 and 1/24 scale.
RC Rally Cars
Rally cars are the most useful on-road cars you can own in this country, because they do not need a perfect surface. Four-wheel drive, longer suspension travel than a touring car and tyres that work on gravel and damp tarmac mean you can drive them on a park path, a gravel drive or a wet car park - the sort of ground that stops a slick-shod touring car dead.
What we stock
Traxxas - the Ford Fiesta ST Rally in 1/10 VXL brushless form, and the Mini Rally Ford RS200 at 1/18. Tamiya - the Audi Quattro A2 on the TT-02 chassis, a kit build and a proper piece of rally history. Carisma - the GT24 range at 1/24, covering the Subaru WRC, Hyundai i20 WRC, M-Sport Ford Puma Rally1 and Audi Quattro S1. FTX - the MK2RS. CEN - the M-Sport Ford Puma Rally1.
Scales
1/10 is the mainstream size with the best parts support and enough weight to feel planted on loose ground. 1/18 and 1/24 are small enough to run in a garden or on a path, which in practice means they get used far more often. The Carisma GT24 cars in particular are proper four-wheel-drive machines rather than toys, just shrunk.
Rally or touring car?
A touring car is faster on smooth tarmac and set up for grip. A rally car gives that up for ground clearance and tyres that cope with dirt. If you have a club track or a smooth car park, buy the touring car. If you are driving wherever you can find, buy the rally car - it is the more versatile of the two by a wide margin.
Tyres matter more than anything
Rally cars come on tyres suited to loose surfaces, and those tyres wear quickly on tarmac. If you split your running between gravel and hard surfaces, a second set of tyres will make more difference than any other upgrade. See RC car wheels and tyres.
