RC Plane Ducted Fan Propulsion, Explained 

Using a brushless electric motor that’s attached to a fan impeller with multiple blades,RC planes with ducted fans propel the plane forward. The motor is used to spin the impeller at incredibly high RPMs, which is what allows the impeller to draw air in to push it out through a cylindrical thrust duct and then out the back of the aircraft. Thanks to this duct, the airflow is guided and accelerated, i.e. the reason why EDF planes are able to achieve such high speeds and manoeuvrability. 

Electric ducted fans come in various sizes. Micro jets use the smallest EDFs with tiny, 30mm diameters, whereas some of the largest models out there might require fans with diameters well over 120mm.
